Workforce Connect Manufacturing Sector Partnership

Cuyahoga County manufacturers collaborate with local resources to address the skills gap and create clear career pathways in manufacturing

In December 2018 the Workforce Connect collaboration of public and private funders seeded the Manufacturing Sector Partnership to spur focused workforce development efforts in Cuyahoga County. MAGNET and Greater Cleveland Partnership co-lead this employer-led effort.

Early in 2019 the sector partnership recruited 14 leading manufacturing owners and executives to determine the trajectory of the sector partnership. This team went through a rigorous process to learn more about the region’s labor force, common barriers to employment and manufacturing career paths, and potential solutions to the thousands of open positions in manufacturing. Learn more here.

Establishing a Vision and Strategies

Coming out of this process, the team established a vision and three initial strategies focused on:

  • Partnering with education providers to fill existing training programs;

  • Developing innovative on-ramps for individuals in the community; and,

  • Advocating for manufacturers in the area.

Through key partnerships with education and training institutes, workforce development agencies, and community organizations, the sector partnership is working towards a target of moving 3,000 people into manufacturing career paths in the next three years.

Looking For Feedback And Additional Members
